3.) Our hero is on a holy mission, out for JUSTICE (as opposed to simple revenge), which means finding and catching this brigand or gang and doing so is not murder, it is for the good of other people.
4.) Our hero proves himself to be a TRUE MAN by frequently rescuing other innocents in mortal situations always at peril of his own life.
5.) Our hero is caught in very dangerous, precarious physical environments, maybe on a mountain top with temps 20 below. He has survival methods that are true to the period and in themselves fascinating. He digs a hole in the snow, lines it with 'boughs' builds a reflector for a fire...I guess he always carries a flint, coffeepot, coffee beans, bullets. He hunts game. He's a regular One man Foxfire.
6.) There's a first person narrative where the Hero ponders the great lightbulbs of life. He is a philosopher repeatedly, doing a 'bit' in every chapter.
7.) There is a lot of chest-thumping manly liturgy displayed for the benefit of young boy readers. The author gives the RULES for being a man.
