THE IMP IN THE SYSTEM! When a GREMLIN assumes your online identity!

A friend of mine just noticed a new way for people to get snookered, by the Mysterious IMP in the System.
I got this email just now.

QUESTION: My friend Susan called me last nite - she was upset. Here is the story.
She has gotten very friendly with a woman named Tatiana that she works
with. They were going everywhere together (even though they both have adoring, male
partners). Now get this: the company that they both worked at is owned by
Tatiana's sister and brother-in-law, newly emigrated Russians who
found a way to make a ton of money with a simple real estate related service,
INVESTMENT FINDERS for low cost 4-unit buildings. They are raking the cash in
and building real estate holdings in the company's name. Not that Susan gets a share,
she's an employee but they pay well. (MY NOTE:  I mention this as I researched the concept
and it's a lulu. Anyone can do it. ) And Susan accused of GREMLIN INTERNET CRIMES
does not want ot lose the JOB!

Personally, I strive not to 'crap' where I eat so there can be no problems work-wise in my life
but that's the theme here: GETTING TOO CLOSE to the PEOPLE YOU WORK WITH. So,
in any event they became very close friends in the last 2 years.

Tatiana, even though married, revealed a lot of intimate details about things in her life
to my friend Susan. It seems that Tatiana had an affair with a guy whom she is still in
love with. He lives in another state - and though HE is divorced - he is for some reason still close
with his ex-wife and with Tatiana, only by EMAIL now. We think HE has a galpal THERE.

Now, here comes the problem. Tatiana suddenly freaked out at Susan, started "IM-ing"
my friend in the last few days accusing her of sending this guy that she's hooked on
100 emails warning or advising him to stay away from Tatiana!

Actually, Tatiana claims Susan's email address was on these
emails being sent - to the ex wife!!! As Susan said to me - I don't even
know these people! how would I know their email addresses?!! She told
Tatiana they are not coming from her - that someone must have stolen her
email address! Tatiana refuses to believe her. She keeps asking why why
why????!!!! We can't figure out how this can happen. But Tatiana said to
Susan - that ONLY Susan could have sent it because in those emails were
things that were revealed to susan in confidence that ONLY SHE COULD
KNOW (and reveal). I know Susan like I said for a lot of years I don't
believe she did this....so we are trying to put our heads together to
figure out how and/or if someone is able to steal your screen name
identity.......but it has to be someone who KNOWS these players involved
- like Tatiana's husband - although he seems to like my friend Susan and
she feels he has no animosity against her and she doesn't think he'd do
this....but he's the only one I can think of - but then again he
wouldn't know things that were revealed in those emails!

Maybe someone was able to tap into their 'Instant Messaging" on AOL
while they were discusing these romantic details in the recent past??

ANSWER: I think Russians are very dangerous.They lived in a KGB dominated
society where death hovered over every shoulder and all of them learned to
tolerate the idea of extinguishing an enemy with a button. If this Tatiana
person thinks that SUSAN is doing them a bad one, she will definitely
get your pal OUT OF THE JOB, convince family to fire her in a way
where she can't get Human Resource money or Tatiana can order
a low cost HIT from the Ruski community and even leave Susan deep in a nearby lake.

HOW IT HAPPENED? Maybe Instant Messengering can be penetrated. I know
of a case where an onlooker in a singles chat room realized who SONNYBOY was from
data given. It was her own BF. She could easily assume another identity and talk to
her own BF and see how free and easy he was! Happens every day! All you have
to do is know what chatroom the BF goes to. Or Tatiana goes to.

Remember that Soccer Mom who went to a MY FACE page and pretended to
be a young swain to a girl she hated. Strung the girl out so that she comitted suicide.
She Assumed the identity, Assumed the pose!

COPS found that soccer mom as cops know what to do, but it's so easy.
ANYONE can do an instant search on an email and see what server it came from
so if TATIANA has minor skills, she should ask the RECIPIENT of bogus emails
to check the DNS numbers. They're on the email headers! Do VIEW PAGE SOURCE
on the email, and in top headers, you'll see the DNS : 64.233.182.190
Or some such four figure code. You take that to DNS STUFF DOT COM and
put it in, cut paste it in. They'll tell you where server is, earthlink in atlanta or
AOL in NEW YORK. you get clues. You can write AOL's abuse and say
someone is pretending to be my BF, friend, etc.

NOW as for who dunnit? CUI BONUM is what you want to ask yourself. There are two
people who have the CUI BONUM to do this. The outta state BF's new lady,
and TATIANA's hubby who can get into her PC. Both have access to the two
machines! That's all it would take, too.
