HUSTLING YOUR GIG! MERCHANDISING YOURSELF! ATTRACTING NEW CLIENTS!

The great problem with publicity/promotion is that, to succeed, it requires regular focused attention to spread news of/about you, your writings on your area of expertise, your services or your product. Unless one has the money to pay a specialist to perform that function the task falls to oneself. It would take you a half hour with a person who knew basic web tech to inhale the 'how's and where's of building EMAIL LISTS, doing a basic WEBSITE, and using word processor to do articles and FTP software to send them to your WEBSITE. A HALF HOUR. I used to make dinner for a tekkie, his dream menu, and get a half hour to hour lesson for free.

However, you may be smart like my daughter Paloma and if you gave yourself TIME, you'd discover all of these gambits yourself. BIG APPLE BABIES is her website, she used WEBMONKEY for kids to train herself in all that. They had lessons for children, so little ones could do websites. Paloma was in her 30's and easily got it.

So do your website and articles A.) Teach yourself at any WEBTECH for children site; there, it's EASY as pie, B.) FIND VOLUNTEER TUTORS. HOW? You can do a walk around in your business area, find smart, local businessmen who have websites, ask what they did and how they did it. And could you come by and watch them do basic web tech stuff. From them, you will hear the best ideas for new approaches/ways of contacting people to inform them. C.) You can use spam emails to do a twice a week send out to your own lists, making them seem NON advertising by giving them a friendly newsletter or relaying a news item. At the end of your email to them, your toss in the PORTAL to your website, its URL.  D.)  You will maybe want to do articles and hang them all over cyberspace. I do and put my ad at the bottom. but it's a fun or spirited article on something interesting to everyone and it sure doesn't LOOK like an ad. And E.) I do trade beads, giveaways. For me it's garden seeds. F.) There's nothing like getting out, wandering through a city, meeting people one on one. But you probably already do a great deal of networking yourself. Include singles parties, community activism parties, local  free or low cost seminars. G.) Learn from the INVENTOR of "VIRAL MARKETING" who became a multi millionaire, well that's not true. He's now a BILLIONAIRE.

The only thing one can add, is to keep on keeping on, trying new angles; that's the promotional way. Its one thing to have a new idea and then launch it on the Net, leaving it to do its work, 'hopefully' to bring in responses, but it will have little-to-no impact if it is just left. The idea needs regular nourishment and renewal. If you're doing it right, one path leads to another. One activity makes you think of a tendril to grow off it, a new thing.

WHERE TO PUT UP FREE ADS (like at CRAIGS LIST) -- OTHER FREE ONLINE CLASSIFIEDS

Craigslist is SO BLESSED FANTASTIC that has nearly single-handedly
destroyed the paid newspaper classifieds world. Newspapers are KEEE--Rashing
right left and silly! CRAIGS is a great way to promote your products, find
employees, sell your garage-sale stuff, and whatever else… it’s also
localized for our convenience. But there ARE other internet classifieds.

You can use these website to post your real estate listings, sell your
garage-sale stuff, promote new job openings, find potential applicants, and
even sell your e/audio/books!

CRAIG NEWMARK is not the only player in town. Almost all of the WEB CLASSIFIEDS
are free, localized, categorized, and regulate themselves through an honor system.
Here they are in approximate order of popularity:

1. Google Base (attached to Google Product Search, formerly known as
Froogle)
2. Kijiji (eBay’s free listings, big internationally, just launched in
USA)
3. MySpace Classifieds
4. Facebook Marketplace (becoming bigger than MySpace, and attracts an
older audience)
5. Yahoo! Classifieds
6. Windows Live Expo (Microsoft)
7. Village Voice, powered by Backpage
8. OLX.com (big internationally?)
9. Lycos classifieds
10. Local.com
11. PennySaver USA
12. Trulia (for real estate only)
13. Vast
14. vFlyer (auto-posting to Google Base, Craigslist, and sharing
widgets)
15. Oodle, iqZone, Edgeio (are also multi-classifieds blasters,
aggregators, and search engines)
16. Verticlans (new)
17. MyStore (new & very social sharing “2.0? oriented)
18. Yample.com is also social/2.0
19. RealpeopleRealstuff.com (video-based classifieds)
20 http://www.inetgiant.com/
21. WORST OF ALL is "DENVER BACK PAGE"  in fifty cities.
http://denver.backpage.com/online/classifieds/index
I have never been able to put an ad there. Not once. The robot keeps
rejecting them and does not tell me why. I think they do not want URLS.
Can you TELL me what the trick is!? Or did they go out of biz. I HOPE!

There are MANY MORE (click to view Google search results for ‘free
classifieds’) OTHER TOP LISTS: http://www.freeclassifiedsites.net/
But these are the biggest. Now, you just have to post & re-post since most
listings expire after a while. BTW: You can compare website traffic through
Alexa.com

LAST, don't forget that your articles in cyberspace are depictions of you, how you think, your expertise. Give each a tail end ad with a great photo. Like a writer's credit. I just thought of this idea today myself. OF what use are 8,000 of my articles out in cyberspace when they don't even have my name on em? Or some 'ad text' that makes people want to dial me up immediately? So I am this whole week on my C; drive going thru the TREE, seeing where I wrote great seminars in htm text and am SLOWLY going back over every article I ever wrote, putting a brief AD for myself at that tail end.  Cut paste, in it goes, save. FTP to the site to replace old version. I am  MERCHANDISING myself, remembering the immortal words of Clark Gable when asked, 'how do you break in and make it as an actor?" Gable responded: "TOOT YOUR OWN HORN SONNY"  So when this is on the tail end, i re-save it, then FTP it to the website. Takes me under a minute to do the resave, FTP-ing the file takes 30 seconds longer as I have to see which website it's on. REASON? I need new clients. Recession makes us all work double hard for a buck. My old clients are on a budget so I've tailored a line of " mini horoscopes for 15$ each. The star work is mentioned but maybe not glowingly enough. It's hard to blow your own horn. I plan on doing one after the other all day, it might create new clients, might add up to some groceries! So here's the AD. It goes on every page I ever wrote.
